Evaluation of Sand SuitabilityThe thermal enhancement compound used with our Thermal Grout products should be high-grade silica sand. The sand should be a washed, dried, pre-packaged silica sand compound which is graded with a round grain shape and should have an AFS Grain Fineness Number (GFN) between 50.0 and 80.0. The Silica Dioxide (SiO2) content of the sand should be greater than 99%. GeoPro recommends that the drilling contractor explore the various sand sources available close to the project site. While GeoPro has already evaluated a large number of commercial high-grade silica sand sources, there may be some sources that have not been fully examined. Simply fill out this form if you are interested in using sand from a given source. If we have already evaluated the product, GeoPro will simply reply to the inquiry and supply the necessary information. If we have not evaluated the source in question, we will take the action necessary to determine its suitability for use with our Thermal Grout products. In most cases, we will ask that the contractor obtain approximately 15 lbs. of the sand and send it to GeoPro for evaluation. Once the sample is received, GeoPro will determine the thermal conductivity range of values that can be obtained with the sand and will offer an adjusted recipe if necessary to achieve the target value. However, since GeoPro will not be supplying the additive material, we will not take any responsibility for the final delivered thermal conductivity on the project. In some cases, locally obtained sand may not be able to satisfy the specified thermal conductivity value for your project. In this case, GeoPro will provide alternative recommendations.
